The Way to Win

During the 100 meter final at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, Dennis Mitchell reacted to the starter's gun, in 90 milliseconds. Which was so quick, that it would have triggered an automatic false start alert on the starter's headphones. However, it later emerged that the starter had chosen not to wear the headphones, as per IAAF rule, it was permissible and not mandatory. Consequently, Mitchell was not disqualified and retained his bronze medal.
